Ljubljana marshes spirit tour

Ljubljana lies at the former marshes holding lots of secrets.
The vibrant old town is concentrated along the banks of Ljubljanica river, flowing through the marshes. The Castle on the hill still looks like it's protecting the romantic city below.
We are going to follow Ljubljanica river, from the city upstream. The first people of the area were so-called Koliščarji - the Stilt people, living in wooden cottages on stilts on fringes of former marshes and on solitary islands, which are today h+only hills. They were using wood for their boats and carts and were fishermen and hunters. The oldest wooden wheel was found right there, preserved well in peat.

The marshes have been dried out through centuries, but still some areas flood sometimes. The area is protected as a nature park, with native flora and fauna.

The dragon is an important part of Ljubljana mythology, but not the only one. Several stories of Ljubljana dragon are connected with the Marshes.
