The following experiences are just two in relation with the exercises in this booklet. I hope by reading them you will get a basic idea of what to expect during an altered state of consciousness and nonphysical exploration.

Six Thousand Mile Trek

I got up at 6:00am, used the restroom and returned to bed. It was still early, so I decided to induce an O.B.E. and got comfortable. I went through a relaxation technique and began to visualize the farm in Wyoming where I spent my years as a child. After lying there for what seemed an eternity, I rolled over to go to sleep but stopped because I didn't want to give up. I lay there for a while longer gradually becoming impatient and then started thinking to myself, “why don't I just do this? It's simple!” Out of frustration, I through my arms out in front of me and sat up to break the meditation, but when I did, I actually projected!

At first I was flying about thirty feet up over snow and sagebrush, so I knew I was in Wyoming but wasn't sure exactly where. Soon I was passing over fields, farm equipment and then finally the old, white farm house where I grew up that overlooks the North Platt River.

I went on past the house, but before crossing the river, I stopped to gaze down at the riverbank about fifteen feet below. As I floated there, I reminisced the days of my childhood when I would only daydream of soaring over the very same areas. Satisfied with my accomplishment, I looked up with the intention to continue my journey and saw my grandmother's house that stood just across the field on the other side of the river.

After deciding to go there, I crossed the river and began across the field. I was half way through the field when I became aware of my awesome ability to move! I looked down at my hands and moved them around amazed at how clearly I could see them. The lucidity, movement, and realness of my condition were absolutely incredible!

Confident that I was totally separate from my physical body and in complete control, I continued across the field. As I approached my grandmother's house, I put my feet down to stop but was unsuccessful and continued to fly clumsily right past it. I turned to face the house as I went by knowing that if I lost visual contact I would not find my way back and the experience would be over.

In a desperate attempt to try anything to stop, I put my hands down at my sides and opened them, palms facing behind me as if to use them as air-breaks. It worked and I finally came to a halt. Relieved, I made an attempt to go back around to the front of the house where I was headed in the first place but ended up flying past it again. Luckily, I was able stop with a little more ease about fifty feet away.

Still with the desire to go right up to the side of the house, I started to float slowly toward it hoping the slow movement would keep me in better control, and it did. When I got up to the house, I went right up to the white brick wall with the intention of walking right through it but stopped to consider what I was about to do. As an experiment, I stretched out my arm and put my hand through the seemingly solid brick wall. It felt as though I was putting my hand into a thick wall of clay.

After pulling my hand out, I moved over to the window where my grandmother's bedroom used to be, built up the courage and put my head through it. That wasn't easy either. After looking around the dark house for a few minutes I began to hear an annoying, beeping sound that wouldn't stop. Soon my environment turned to blackness, and I opened my physical eyes to find myself back home in my small apartment in Northern Japan where I was living at the time. I then realized the annoying, beeping sound was coming from my alarm clock.

Going from one place to the next so quickly left me disoriented, and it took me a few seconds to figure out the position of my body and the direction it was lying in. After lying there for a few minutes gathering my senses, I got up, grabbed my journal and began writing.

Invisible Limbs

This morning I got up around 7:30 to have breakfast with my family. I had a headache when I woke up, and it did not seem like it was going to go away. So after eating breakfast I got back into bed to rest for a while.

On my way to sleep, I began thinking about a family in Douglas, Wyoming who I've known my entire life. For some reason I began thinking of the inside of their house and suddenly found myself gazing at a little plastic nightlight cover on a wall. As I looked at the plastic face, I realized that my body must have fallen asleep, and I forced myself to become more observant of the illusion. I focused deep into every detail and within seconds the vibrations were roaring in my head. I tried to rise but in doing so fell off the bed!

I didn't think I had projected because while rolling around on the floor, I could feel the carpet against my back and my body felt completely normal. I thought I'd better get back into bed and was back instantly with the vibrations pounding in my head.

Realizing that I'd actually projected, I tried to sit up and was able to with ease. While half disconnected from the physical body, I wanted to experiment and tried to open my physical eyes to see what would happen. Soon I was lying back down looking, with physical eyes, at my feet.

After closing my eyes, I induced the vibrations and tried to get out of body again by sitting up, rolling over, and moving around, but nothing worked. Then I remembered how much easier it is to move small body parts, and I lifted my arms easily out in front of me. I began moving my hands and fingers around and opened my eyes, physical or nonphysical I could not distinguish, to see if I could view my astral arms and fingers; they were completely invisible to me. I don't know why I could not see my astral limbs, but I could definitely feel them out there moving around in front of me. During this entire experience, I induced the vibrations and tried to disconnect from the physical body at least six times.

During one of my last attempts to project, I thought I'd take more control of the vibrations by speeding them up. Doing this made it easier to move; however, when I got half way out of body, the vibrations faded and I was sucked back in. I must have gotten overly excited because as soon as I relaxed again the vibrations returned. I attempted to get out of body a few more times by speeding up the vibrations, but the same thing kept happening; I'd get half way out and then get sucked back in again.

When I realized I was not going to complete another full-blown projection, I thought I would at least experiment while the vibrations were in process and tried to talk with my physical mouth. However, I could not utter a word, and the more I tried to speak the harder it became.

By this point I knew my experience would soon be over but wanted to do one last experiment and tried to move my physical body. I felt as though I was glued to my bed with a ton of weight sitting on my chest; I was completely paralyzed. The experience was kind of fun because I knew the paralysis would eventually come to an end, but knowing how someone who is completely paralyzed from head to toe must feel, I have to admit it got a little scary.

Soon the vibrations faded and I opened my eyes to find my physical self safely in my bed in the very same position as when I first lay down to rest. After sitting up and jumping from my bed, I grabbed my journal and began to write.
